30 Days of Thankful ~ #7

A sense of humor is a very underrated thing. Studies show that the average four year old laughs 300 times per day while the average 40 year old only four! Our family has always had an edgy, sarcastic sense of humor that was not always seen as a positive to others. Family jokes are the best jokes. They carry over for years and years. They are a glue that binds you together.
Sometimes, a situation is so dire, all you can do is find the humor in it or you'd break down in tears. Sometimes, the best solution is a good laugh. It may not solve the immediate problem, but it can sure help get you through the day.
I am thankful for humor in my life. I am thankful for people who make me laugh.

30 Days of Thankful ~ #6

I am thankful for sunsets. I am more thankful for the moments when I stop and actually notice their beauty and wonder.
Some call it God's paintbrush in action and seeing them makes me believe this is true.
Sometimes I am in a special place when I get to watch this beauty unfold, like the beach.
.
Other times, I find it right in my own backyard..
Or driving in the car...
"It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream."
I agree.

30 Days of Thankful ~ #5

I am thankful for holidays. Life is made up, mostly, of ordinary time, but in between that ordinary time, we get reasons to celebrate. Decorating for each holiday, makes me happy. As I put out each silly decoration, I am reminded when I got a particular item and it makes me happy. When the grandkids ask to help me decorate the house, it makes me happy. Watching the next generation marvel at these holiday decorations makes me happy.
I am thankful for all holidays and the joy they bring to myself and others. Now, if only I could find a Groundhog's Day flag...

30 Days of Thankful ~ #4

Today I am thankful for the fact that I still enjoy cooking. So many people I know NEVER liked it (daughter) or are sick of it (friends my age). I don't cook every night, but I still really take pleasure in finding new recipes and experimenting, as well as cooking the tried and true family dinners that everyone asks for and enjoys. One of my proudest moments was when Jack proclaimed, "You are the best cooker ever, Grammie!" Funny, we probably had grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade chicken soup that night!

I am thankful that feeding their bodies, feeds my soul.

30 Days of Thankful ~ #3

Today I am thankful for my health. Nobody considers their body and health on the mornings they wake up and feel fine, but it's foremost in their mind on the day they are sick. I actually think about my health a lot. As I am running down the street, like this morning, I am always reminded how incredibly lucky and blessed I am that I can do just that ~ run and run and run some more. I dread the day when I can no longer do this simple thing that makes me feel so good. Yes, there are aches and pains, but I tune them out and keep going. The feeling at the end is worth any mild discomfort I might feel.
Yes, health is wealth!

30 Days of Thankful ~ #2

Today, I am thankful for messes. When these beauties help me bake, it is always messy, takes longer and egg cracking becomes a competition. Where I demanded neat and tidy with my own children, I have come to realize through my grandchildren, it's really not all that important. Messes make memories. Messes allow for teaching moments. Messes can be cleaned up later.
Messes = love

30 Days of Thankful ~ #1

I had already decided I was going to use my blog in November for "30 Days of Thankful". Each day I am going to find something, big or small, in which to be thankful. Logically, I should have started with something big, like my family, but I am starting with something different.
My friend is very creative. She can sew and create most anything. I still use a lined pad and a pencil for my daily list of: "Go", "Do", "Call". It's old school, but I like it. There is something about crossing things off the list that makes me feel accomplished. This afternoon, I opened my front door to get the mail, and there was a bag hanging on the knob. Inside was this adorable cover for my lined pad. Clearly, it is for the month of November and is a constant reminder to me to be thankful and grateful. My friend loves to drop things off and run. She would make a good ninja! She is covert in her operation and you never catch her. You only find a lovely and unexpected surprise at your front door.
Today, I am thankful for her, her friendship and my lovely gift that will remind me all month to be thankful.
