Grandparents Day

On any given Saturday in America, there are probably dozens of sporting events from which to choose. For me, there is nowhere I'd rather be than Grandparent's Day at the little league park. Curb service golf cart ride to the field, lunch I didn't have to make, photo ops and peanuts! To top it all off, there is that 100 watt smile on Jack E. Boy's face. What could be better?! Go, Angels!!
In case I forget....it really is the little things in life....

Little Feet

"I can only imagine where these little feet will go in their lifetime. My only hope is that they never forget the way home."

Carry On

This is where I want to live all my days. No, not at Walgreens, but at "the corner of Happy & Healthy". This has been a week of tragedy in the US. Many lives have been shattered by senseless acts of violence. It would be very easy for us to wallow in the ugly, sad, and wicked side of life. With 24/7 news coverage, it is hard to escape.
What can we do? We can simply...carry on. If we are frozen by fear and sadness, the darkness wins. If we can somehow carry on, the light may shine again. If not today, maybe tomorrow. We can and must carry on. Little do we know, someone in our life may need us to carry on so that they might also carry on.
Come live with me at the corner of happy & healthy.
Carry on...

Change Your Thoughts/Change Your Life

I hate to run.
I can't do this.
My legs feel awful.
My lungs are on fire.
F***, I hate running!
I dread the day I cannot go out and run.
My whole day is better when I run.
I am stronger than I think.
I may not be fast, but it's better than sitting on my sofa.
Thank God, I GET to run today!

A Project

I have been wanting a succulent wreath for the front door for years. I see them every now and then and they are SO EXPENSIVE!!! My DIY self said I could make one, but never took the time to do so.  After a little research on the internet (what did we ever do without it?!), I figured I might give it a try. I already had a wire wreath frame. I went to Home Depot to buy sphagnum moss. The helpful man in the garden department knew just what it was even though I couldn't even pronounce it! I asked him why I needed this type of moss and he said it was because it retained water well (must be female!!) He suggested I soak it in a bowl or bucket. I also needed some fishing line which I pilfered from my husband's fishing pole. You aren't going fishing any time soon, are you honey?! I have no idea how it got tangled up!
Succulents were easy to come by as I have a ton in the front yard. After making some cuttings and soaking my moss, I started packing it around the wire frame. After it looked pretty full, I took fishing time and wound it around and around to secure it to the frame. Sorry, I was so into it, I forgot to take a photo at this point in the project! I was somewhat unsure how it get the little plants to stay put, but I just pushed some through the moss and others I just placed around. After I was happy with the look, I took more fishing line and wrapped it through the plants trying hard for it not to show.
I am happy with the finished product, but am somewhat unsure that they will all remain in place if I hang it immediately. I have decided to leave it on a flat surface for a week or so to give the roots a chance to take hold within the moss.I am told it just needs sun and a spray bottle of water every now and them. One of the beauties of succulents is their low maintenance.  If it doesn't stay together when I go to hang it, I will leave it flat and place it on a patio table with a candle in the middle. Still pretty.
If anyone out there has made one and has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. This may have been my first succulent wreath, but I doubt it will be my last!

Half Birthday

Do you celebrate "half birthdays"? We do! It seemed especially important to Maddy this year. She started reminding us over a week ago and kept hinting she was hoping for a cake. Like her Pa, Baskin Robbins ice cream cakes are her favorite.
It seemed appropriate to order a half circle for a half birthday!
 She loved it!!
I always say, CELEBRATE EVERYTHING! These silly little bugs make every occasion special. I count myself lucky to enjoy these moments with them and there's nothing "half" about that fact! I love them with my whole heart!

Lessons from the Park

Today reinforced the notion that kids don't need all the fancy electronics to have fun. We headed to the "Castle Park" for free, outdoor entertainment.
 We "hung out" ~ literally!

We packed a picnic lunch. Funny, it's the same lunch we would have had at home, but it somehow tastes so much better outside on a blanket.
Sometimes going in a circle IS getting somewhere!
These faces, these smiles made it so much fun.

The minute they got in the car, they asked, "When can we go back???" Guess that means they had a great day! I know I did!
